Koi Ku Nawa is the live performance project of Cati & Boris from Frankfurt am Main. Since 2015 they have been on European stages, at festivals and at club events together. Their work brings Shibari, BDSM, fetish and gothic aesthetics into real rope sessions that emerge in the moment. No choreography, no theatre, no decorative staging: at the centre are trust, control, pain, surrender and the emotional truth between two people.

Koi Ku Nawa is the live rope performance project of Cati & Boris from Frankfurt am Main. Since 2015 they have been performing together on stages, at festivals and at club events across Europe. The name comes from Japanese: koi means love, ku stands for pain and suffering, nawa for rope. For Cati & Boris this name describes the emotional range that rope can hold.

Their work began with a strongly visual Shibari aesthetic, often with traditionally inspired imagery and kimono elements. Over the years it has grown into a much more reduced, more direct form of live performance. Today the focus is no longer on the perfect pose, but on the real session: rope as a tool for control, trust, surrender, pain and presence.

Koi Ku Nawa works without fixed choreography and without acted-out drama. Every performance emerges from the moment, from the music, the space and the connection between the two of them. Their style brings together Shibari, BDSM, fetish, gothic and a dark, intimate stage aesthetic.

Large trade fair, festival or small club: Koi Ku Nawa do not perform a show about rope. They show what happens when rope is actually being used.
